Reminders to the trauma can suddenly make you feel afraid or sad. Also, your body may respond by means of perspiration, shivering, nausea, palpitations, an oppressed feeling on the chest, and a dry mouth. By means of these complaints it seems as if one is always at risk. A feeling of disgust may also occur. It feels as if the traumatic event has taken place recently, even though it was a long time ago. Images or sounds of the trauma repeat themselves over and over in your thought or dreams. We call them intrusions. They seem warning signs, so that you can't forget what happened.
