Loss of control
It goes without saying that you are trying to prevent the event from happening again. But in an attempt to regain control of your life, you avoid everything that triggers feelings of anxiety, sadness, or helplessness. Perhaps you try to stop unwanted thoughts by anything that diverts you from it. In this way you do not only protect yourself against real danger, but also from intense emotions. Often people with PTSD avoid more and more situations out of fear of loss of control in the course of time. This will limit you more and more in your functioning. The feeling that it will never be like before, may cause you to see the future very grim.
